Our journey, which began in 2022, has been dedicated to transforming the landscape of chronic pain care through innovative research, patient education, and a commitment to bettering lives.
At the core of our mission lies a resolute desire to improve patient well-being by bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and the individuals who stand to benefit from it the most. We firmly believe that knowledge is a powerful tool, and it's with this conviction that we've tirelessly collaborated with diverse companies and organizations over the past year, pushing the boundaries of our understanding of pain and revolutionizing pain management practices.
In a world where new ideas, devices, and treatment algorithms are shaping the future of pain management, our resolve has never been stronger. As a physician, surgeon, and researcher, I am acutely aware of the pressing need to address the opioid epidemic and provide holistic solutions that heal both the mind and the body. This is a public health challenge that affects a staggering one-sixth of the global population, and our pursuit is driven by a deep sense of responsibility to make a difference.
In this journey, however, we've recognized a gap that demands attention – patient education. It is with immense pride and excitement that I share with you our latest endeavor, the CRI EMPOWER YOU conference. This groundbreaking event, taking place on August 25-26, 2023, in San Diego, CA, is aimed at empowering patients with knowledge, autonomy, and the ability to make informed decisions about their health. A world-class faculty of experts from around the nation will come together to illuminate patients within the Southern California corridor, and your support can help make this event truly historic.
Our inaugural conference has garnered tremendous enthusiasm, with over 350 registrations and a goal of 1000 registrations. Local community patients and veterans will gather to gain insights, explore options, and become advocates for their own well-being. Moreover, the event will feature product theaters hosted by fifteen to twenty top-tier company vendors, spanning pharmaceuticals to medical devices, offering attendees a comprehensive understanding of available resources.
As part of this landmark occasion, we are focusing on cancer pain, an area of paramount importance. Aligning with cancer education, we are also partnering with Global Cancer Connect, a free cancer educational platform, conceived by Dr. Kavya Kannan, a medical oncologist and hematologist in Santa Barbara (https://www.globalcancerconnect.org/)
We are honored to extend an invitation to our cocktail and dessert event, where the contributions of esteemed benefactors like yourself will be instrumental in enhancing our understanding of cancer pain. Your support, regardless of its size, will be immensely valued. Our aim is to raise a minimum of $1000 per benefactor, with all proceeds dedicated to funding the event and supporting the incredible coastal non profit organization, Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara.
The Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara was founded in 1949 on a promise to provide the highest quality of cancer care to everyone in the Santa Barbara community regardless of the means. The Foundation commits its fundraising efforts to sponsor a variety of support programs and charity care for patients at the Ridley Tree Cancer Center as they journey with, through and beyond cancer.
